Can anybody give me some ideas about surprising your important person's birthday whereas they don't know about that?

As I said in the topic question, what you will do to surprise your important person's birthday?
For me I think of buying something that he wants.
In my case, he once told me that he needed a new wallet and I'm about to buy him one.
But you know, I'm kind of overthinking person. I always nervous about my thought.
I don't know he will like it or not if not I will feel really upset. So I haven't buy it yet and I need some recommendation from you guys what will I do. Will I ask him directly or do something else for him?
I really want to surprise him and your suggestion about it and thank you in advance. ^ 0^

To surprise your important person's birthday,
at first, you pretend to forget his birthday.
If he asks what date today is, you just answer normally.
Try not to be exciting, it's just a normal day.
If you do this, he will think you forget his birthday.
When he is alone, you sing Happy Birthday Song and appear with cake.
He will know that he was surprised on his birthday.
