What is World-Class standard school?

The Ministry of Education setted World-Class standard school, which is a school project organized learning courses to get near international standards. It aims to develop Thai students to become the world citizen for preparing Thai children and all Thai youths to be ready for ASEAN in 2015. As English is the official language of ASEAN Thai children should be equipped with the necessary language skills, schools throughout the country need to familiarize their students with both Thai values and international standards. In World-Class standard classroom, students need to learn to be proud of their national identity and behave in a proper way and with good morals. Finally, foreign languages, especially English, should be taught in terms of four skills: listening, speaking, writing and reading, so that Thai students become fluent communicators.

The Abhisit Government introduced the so called World Class Standard School in 2011. 500 OBEC schools on primary and secondary level were designated to be this type of school. It meant that one class per grade level would receive the subjects science and mathematics in the English language for one period per week. The teaching had to be done preferably by Thai teachers but very soon that seemed to be impossible because of a lack of specific knowledge. Foreign teachers were required to take up the classes.

The current Yinluck Government is shouting about ASEAN 2015, English 2012, tablets/ tabloids and what more but nothing about continuing and further implementing the WCSS-program.
