Why English is important for AEC?

As you know, English is the international language.
Many people commonly use English language to communicate with each other.
When you have to confront with AEC, surely, you might have to contact many people in ASEAN countries.
When you speak, you need to use the same language.
So that's why English is supposed to the main language that we use for communication.
Approximately 75% of the world’s mail is written in English.
The internet, too, is a hotbed of English communication.
Estimates suggest that 36% of the internet’s 200 million users communicate in English – a number that is growing daily as more and more people get online.

The Asean Economic Community will open up a free labor market among the ten member
countries of ASEAN in 2015, with professionals and skilled workers who possess an
advanced level of English language proficiency having the edge on other applicants for
a job position, since this language is the common medium for international communication
in both the public and private sectors. Securing high level positions and well paid jobs is
a highly competitive process – for Thai people, this will mean being evaluated against
applicants from Singapore and The Philippines, where the standard of English is generally
higher. Consequently, strong English language skills need to be attained by Thai nationals
if they are to gain the maximum advantage offered by the new 2015 AEC opportunities.

A hot topic at the moment is how to prepare for the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC)
which becomes a reality in only two years.
One common theme has been the need for Thailand
to improve the English language capability of its people.
It is important to look at the context for the AEC era.
We are in an age of increasing globalization "the death of distance",and internationalism.
Also we are in age of rapidly increasing academic mobility and the privatization of higher education.
While both are legitimate conceptual frameworks, I will focus on improvement the effectiveness and productivity of the Thai workers and professionals in the AEC era.

So, this will be easy for us to communicate when we become AEC.
In Southeast Asia, there're many languages spoken including dialects.
As most of the counties in AEC were colony to the countries that
speak English and we've been learning English since then.
So it makes sense why English is important for AEC because
98% of AEC people can communicate in English well.
