How to Be a Good Tutor?

1. Be fun. Nobody likes a strict tutor. Nobody likes to do work in silence.
Let your students do some educational but fun games on the computer.
Give them short breaks once in a while. Have rewards for being good for an entire session,
like giving them a piece of candy at the end of the lesson.
2. Give your students breaks. The breaks should be no longer than 5 minutes.
When they work for long, consecutive periods of time then they are likely to lose focus.
They need breaks every now and again, just we do.
3. Don't make them do work that's too hard for them. If they are in the first grade,
then don't expect that they're going to know square roots, or algebra.
Do more simple things consistently, like adding and subtracting,
or multiplying and dividing until they master it. Teach your students things
that they should know in their grade level.

There are a lot of things that makes a good teacher, there are even books about this. I think that one of the most important things to achieve to be a successful teacher is classroom management, when you reach this, you can reach a lot of other things as well, such as variety in techniques, variety of instruments of evaluation, creativity, the use of technology, apart from this you can also use all of the available resources in the student's favor, wise use of lective time, being a: (facilitator, a helper, a guide, a model) to your students, proper tone of voice, proper clothing, re-enforce positive behavior, working as a guide to help students avoid negative behavior, promoting a peaceful and respectful environment, becoming a reliable person: someone they can look up to as an example, as a person that will help them, not only through the class you are teaching but any other situation as well, having the compromise of helping them in the acquisition of moral values, support them, integrating other classes in your class....and sooooooooooooooooo on. There are a lot of things to work with to be a successful teacher....I think that you have the vocation to be a teacher, if you have the strength, the passion to be a teacher....then this "thing" of being a "good" teacher will come naturally.
